PARTY POPPER

A party popper, sometimes called a celebrator or firecracker popper, is a small, disposable plastic toy that is traditionally used at children’s parties and celebrations, usually to celebrate a birthday. Children play with and then throw the party popper off across the room or onto the floor. Often the first party popper toy that a child will play with is used at birthday celebrations, as it provides the perfect sound and effect for kids to sing and dance to. Other kinds of party poppers can use compressed air rather than gunpowder, but still will produce the same exciting result and create the same vibrant flame when the cord is pulled.

But what if you’re looking for something a little more spectacular, and something that’s a lot quicker to deploy? There’s now another kind of popper on the market – a firecracker popper. Firecrackers are traditionally very large fireworks, with the container filled with gunpowder inside and a metal rod extending from the base to allow it to be deployed and held tightly in the air by an adult. Red phosphorus is added to the red phosphorus in the plastic bag is connected to a metal clip attached to the rod. The clip is then attached to a paper or cardboard tube which is thrown into the air, and the reaction of the nozzle combined with the red phosphorus causes the plastic bag to break into a million little bits, one each in the distinctive white colour of the party popper.

The firecracker poppers create friction, which spreads the confetti (and even the gunpowder) out across the party area as you aim them at people. They also create some much needed excitement at a hen night when you have literally got people shooting in the dark. At a family gathering the effects can be just as dramatic – think of how excited the adults at your party will be when they see the bulletins being shot in the air!

There are several different designs available but the most popular is probably the ‘pyrotechnic shot’. These are small-sized plastic shot bottles that, when open, create a small amount of pyrotechnic gas that will blow up when it comes in contact with a small amount of air.
